Description

Puyallup native Gertrude (Stelling) Wilhelmsen was awarded this medallion by placing second in the discus (116 feet, 9 inches) at the 1936 United States Olympic Trials at Randall’s Island Stadium in New York City. Wilhelmsen went on to place eighth in the discus at the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics. Wilhelmsen was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Baseball/Softball Hall of Fame as a fastpitch softball player in 1994.
