This style of helmet was used by the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League in the 1960’s and 70’s. The helmet is white, with the Cardinals logo on each side. It was worn by Wide Receiver Dave Williams from Lincoln High School in Tacoma. Williams was a standout athlete as a highschooler, earning 12 varsity letters in four different sports throughout his time at Lincoln. After graduating from Lincoln in 1963, Williams moved on to play football at the University of Washington, where he switched positions to play tight end. He continued to find success in college, as he was a three year varsity letterman in football and track. He was selected with the 16th overall pick in the 1967 NFL draft to the (then) St. Louis Cardinals. As a pro, Williams switched back to receiver, and hauled in 183 passes, for 2,768 yards and 25 touchdowns. He spent time with San Diego and Pittsburgh before taking a break from the NFL to play in the World Football League from 1974-75. Williams was the first player to sign with the Seattle Seahawks in 1976, but hurt his knee during a promotional event and retired from pro football in the Fall. Williams was named to the Husky’s Hall of Fame class of 2014.Lexicon
