Description

In his many years of broadcasting sports on local TV stations and doing radio and TV broadcasts, John Jarstad used this camera. Jarstad was a sportswriter, working for newspapers in Bremerton, Boise and Syracuse. After getting a journalism degree at Washington State University, Jarstad became a pioneer in sports coverage for TV news. Jarstad broadcasted University of Washington football and basketball games from 1947 to 1954. In the 1940s when he was the sports editor of the Bremerton, Jarstad also broadcast the Bremerton Blujackets' minor league baseball games on the radio in the 1940s. Later, he also broadcast on TV the Tacoma Rainiers and he hosted a popular outdoor show on KOMO-TV for 13 years. Jarstad also became a Tacoma city councilman and was the mayor.
