Just three seasons piror in 1961, Tacoma finished with a 97-57 record and won the Pacific Coast League title. From 1960 to 1965, Gil Garriod, who autographed this baseball, played shortstop for the Tacoma Giants. In 1963 he became a regular in Tacoma as he played in the minor leagues from 1960 to 1973 and finished with a .263 batting average. Tacoma's Triple-A team was affiliated with the San Francisco Giants from 1960 to 1965 and they were the Tacoma Giants. Future Hall of Famer Juan Marichal pitched a shutout in the Tacoma Giants first win in the newly built Cheney Stadium in 1960. Tacoma's major league affiliation has changed often over the years. After being the Tacoma Giants from 1960 to 1965, they became the Tacoma Cubs from 1966 to 1971. Then they were the Tacoma Twins from 1972 to 1977.
