Description

Marv Rickert, who was born in Longbranch, Washington, played for the Tacoma Tigers of the Western International League from 1938-41 before being sold to the Chicago Cubs in 1941. Rickert went on to play in 402 games for the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox. The outfielder was an emergency replacement for an injured player for the 1948 World Series for the Braves against the Cleveland Indians. He started the opening game of the World Series, getting one of Boston’s two hits against Hall of Famer Bob Feller in the Braves’ 1-0 victory. He homered in Game 4, a 2-1 loss. The Braves lost the World Series in six games. Rickert’s best major league season was in 1949 when he hit .292 with six home runs and 49 RBIs for the Braves.
