Shirley Fopp, who was both an outstanding skier and a professional golfer, won this golf trophy at the Carling Golf Championship. In 1959, Fopp was one of four women golfers from Tacoma at the dedication of the American Lake Veterans Golf Course. Fopp was also on one of two women foursomes who were the first to try out that golf course. Fopp, who was born in 1919 and died in 2002, was also a champion skier. She won the women's national downhill championship several times in the 1940s and was the only woman to win the women's Silver Skis championship twice. Fopp, who was born in Switzerland and later lived in Tacoma, is also the only three-time winner of the Parsenn Derby. In 1949, Fopp led a free ski school for Tacoma high school students. Fopp has been inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame for her accomplishments as a skier and a golfer.Lexicon
