Description

Stanley's Shoeman, an amateur baseball team from Tacoma, used this baseball bat in 1956 when they won the national amateur baseball championship. The team was sponsored by Stan Naccarato, a successful businessman who helped organize the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers. The names of the players are printed in gold on the bat. Those players are Morley Brotman, Jack Johnson, George Grant, Gord Grubert, Pat Dillon, Max Braman, Dick Montgomery, Bob Maguinez, Jim Harney, Jim Gallwas, Ron Storaasli, Ray Spalding, Earl Hyder, Monte Geiger, Manly Mitchell, Dale Bloom and Dick Schlosstein. This national championship team from Tacoma was coached by Doug McArthur, who became the athletic director at University of Puger Sound and was later inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Hall of Fame. The Stanley's Shoemen team became the first West Coast team to win a national amateur championship. Bob Maguinez was a gifted player on the Stanley's Shoeman team and he once played all nine positions in one game.
