Description

A wooden broom, shown in this photo with black synthetic bristles and 12 inches in length, is used in the sport of curling. Curling was first introduced on the West Coast at the Lakewood Ice Arena. The curling club was one of many popular sports played at the rink including hockey and figure skating. The ice arena was the entertainment hub from its opening in 1938 until 1982 when part of the building collapsed and the rest was demolished. Broom belonged to Stephen C. Brightman.
