Description

Tacoma boxer Mike McMurtry was awarded this silver cup trophy with a gold boxer on top after boxing for national champion Idaho State College against Louisiana State on Dec. 28 in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Dec. 28, 1953. Engraved on the cup: “1953-1954 Louisiana State University vs. Idaho State College” McMurtry posted a 207-7 record as an amateur boxer, winning the heavyweight championship at Idaho State. The Idaho State team left Pocatello on Christmas Day via train, stopping in Chicago for a workout.
