Rawlings Official Baseball for the Pacific Coast League signed in black ink by multiple members of the 2001 Tacoma Rainiers. The 2001 squad – the AAA affiliate for the American League West champion Seattle Mariners – finished the year with an 85-59 record under the leadership of manager Dan Rohn, winning the North Division title by 12.5 games over the Calgary Cannons. Mariners prospect Denny Stark led the league with 14 wins and ranked third with a 2.37 earned run average, while 22-year old prospect Joel Pineiro won six games in 77 innings pitched while spending half the season helping the Mariners tie a Major League Baseball record with 116 wins. Brett Tomko threw a no-hitter on July 3 for the Rainiers, while four days later John Halama threw the first nine-inning perfect game in Pacific Coast League history against Calgary. Todd Betts led the offense with a .308 batting average and 156 hits, while Juan Thomas slugged 23 home runs with 95 runs batted in and posted a .523 slugging percentage.
