Description

This green short sleeve sweatshirt, has “TACOMA TYEES SEMI-PRO FOOTBALL” imprinted in yellow, an outline of a football in the middle of the chest, and “1964” printed inside. With “Doug McClary written in cursive just above the date. The Tacoma Tyees (now the Tacoma Sabers) have been a big part of Pierce county football, with Semi-Pro first finding its way into Western Culture in the 1930’s.The Tacoma Tyees were founded in 1962 under Founder, General Manager, and Coach Ben Hounder. The Tacoma Tyees joined the Northwest Semi-Pro league, playing local teams like Portland, Seattle, Eugene, Spokane, and Bellingham. They would play Sundays at Bellarmine field, or the Lincoln Dome. The Tyees won the league championship in 1965, but with the recent founding of the Continental Football League and the Pierce County Bengals, the Tyees soon were forced to cease operations.
