Description

A pair of brown-leather miniature boxing gloves were a souvenir from a fight by Freddie Steele. Nicknamed “The Tacoma Wonder Boy,” Steele had a meteoric rise to the world middleweight boxing championship. He beat Babe Risko by decision in Seattle. Steele defended his title against Risko in other fights but lost the crown in 1938 after suffering a first-round knockout to Al Hostak. Steele was induced into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 1957 and the Washington State Sports Hall of Fame in 1962.
