Frosty Westering, the longtime coach of the Lutes who helped turn them into a successful program, was the coach of that 1999 championship team. He coached at PLU from 1972 to 2003, compiling an impressive 303-96-7 record. Westerling led the Lutes to eight national championship games, winning four. He retired as the ninth winningest coach in college football history. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2005. His son, Scott Westerling, took over for him as head coach when Frosty retired.Lexicon
