Description

Pat Tyson crossing the finish line to win the inaugural Sound to Narrows fun run in 1973. Tyson, a graduate of Lincoln High School, is one of the most influential figures in running in the Pacific Northwest. Tyson ran track and cross country at the University of Oregon, helping coach Bill Bowerman create Nike running shoes. At Oregon, Tyson was a roommate with Steve Prefontaine, who ran in the 5,000 meters at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany. Tyson went on to become a successful coach at Shorecrest High School in Shoreline and Mead High School in Spokane, then coached in college at Kentucky, Oregon and Gonzaga.
