In the 1993 MLB draft, Rodriguez, as a senior in high school, was the first player picked and was selected by the Seattle Mariners and played in the minor leagues for the Tacoma Rainiers. In 1996, he became the Mariners starting shortstop and he won the league batting championship and finished second in the voting for the AL MVP. But in 2000, Rodriguez left the Mariners and signed a 10-year, $252 million contract with the Texas Rangers.Lexicon
