Description

The Tacoma Mountaineers were a professional basketball team back in the 1940s and they wore these purple satin warmup jackets. Tom Werner coached the Mountaineers and they played one season in the Pacific Coast Conference back in the 1947-48 season. They are the only professional basketball team from Tacoma. Marv Harshman and Tom Cross, who were teammates at Pacific Lutheran College, were the top players for the Mountaineers. Harshman went to be one of the top college basketball coaches in the nation, coaching at Pacific Lutheran College, Washington State University the University of Washington, winning 642 games over 40 years. Cross refereed Pac-10 basketball and football for many years. They have both been inducted into PLU's and the Tacoma Sports Museum's hall of fame.
