Description

A commemorative medal from the 1938 Boys Junior Championship, which depicts a figure of a Native American man wearing a breechcloth with a bow, comes from the National Archery Association of the United States and was awarded to Harry “Sonny” Johns. Johns, of Tacoma, was a Pacific Northwest champion and the Washington State Archery Association’s Junior Champion from 1937-1940. It was during that time Johns won the boys national junior title as well. The national association was founded in 1939, and is now known as the National Field Archery Association. It consists of 49 chartered state organizations and nearly 1,000 clubs. Various classes of archery within the association include are bow, freestyle, freestyle limited, freestyle bowhunter, traditional, freestyle limited recurve and crossbow.
