Description

Here is the silver championship ring the Pierce County Bengals, a semi-pro football team, won in the 1979 NIFL championship. The Bengals began in 1973 and Ron Baines has played a big role with the team, first as a player and later as a coach and general manager. In 1973, Ed Bemis started the team and he was the Bengals general manager from 1973 to 1980. Roy Bogrand was the head coach in 1973 and then Steve Harshman took over and coached the Bengals from 1974 to 1980. The Pierce County Bengals have been successful over the years, winning the Northwest International championship from 1974 to 1977. In addition to coaching, Harshman was also successful as a player. He was all league five straight years, from 1976 to 1980.
