Description

Marv Harshman wore this red polo shirt when he coached the U.S. men's basketball team at the Pan American Games in Mexico City in 1975. The U.S. basketball team won a gold medal that year. Harshman was coaching basketball at the University of Washington at that time. Harshman coached at the UW for 14 years, from 1971 to 1985. Prior to moving to the UW, Harshman coached at Washington State University from 1958 to 1971. Harshman launched his successful coaching career at his alma mater, Pacific Lutheran College. He coached there from 1945 to 1958, compiling a 236-117 overall record there and 90-28 in conference. Harshman, who played football, basketball, baseball and track in college, also coached football at PLC from 1951 to 1957. He also coached baseball at PLC from 1954 to 1958. So, from 1951 to 1958, Harshman coached football, basketball and baseball at his alma mater. The Pan Am Games have been held every four years beginning in 1951 when 2,513 athletes from 14 countries participated. In the 2015 Pan Am Games, 6,132 athletes from 41 countries competed.
