In the College of Puget Sound’s Warner Gym shows a basketball game occuring with a CPS team in the late 1940s. It is not clear whether this is a varsity, or a jv, game; the players may look particularly young. Nor is it evident who the opponent is. No sources are readily available that might help identify individuals in the photo. (A close review of issues of the CPS yearbook, Tamanawas, in this era might help name individuals, and narrow down the years.)
A preliminary description of the photo had placed it in the 1950s. The uniforms, however, look more like those of the late ’40s, including the ubiquity of black sneakers in this shot. White sneakers rapidly became favored in the 1950s. In addition, after the completion of CPS’s Memorial Fieldhouse in the spring of 1949, it appears that most, if not all, intercollegiate competition on campus was held in the newer venue, leaving the Warner Gym to intramural sports.Made/Created
