In the College of Puget Sound’s Warner Gym shows a basketball game is happening with a CPS team in the late 1940s. It is not evident who the opponent is. The team in the lighter jerseys has text on the front of their shirts, but the resolution of the image posted online is not sufficiently fine to render the text legible.
Note that if the resolution of the original photo is fine enough, it might be possible also to make out the tattoo on the shoulder of the player on the far side of the center circle, visible between the arm and torso of no. 11 in the foreground.
No sources are readily available that might help identify individuals in the photo. (A close review of issues of the CPS yearbook, Tamanawas, in this era might help name individuals, and narrow down the years.)
A preliminary description of the photo had placed it in the 1950s. The uniforms, however, look more like those of the late ’40s, including the ubiquity of black sneakers in this shot. White sneakers rapidly became favored in the 1950s. In addition, after the completion of CPS’s Memorial Fieldhouse in the spring of 1949, it appears that most, if not all, intercollegiate competition on campus was held in the newer venue, leaving the Warner Gym to intramural sports.Made/Created
