Description

This 1960 Olympic gold medal for rowing was won by Dan Ayrault in 1960 in Rome. Ayrault, who rowed at Stanford University, found himself raising money to fund a crew program because it wasn’t an officially recognized sport. Ayrault also helped construct a boathouse and by 1956 teamed with Conn Findlay and coxswain Kurt Seiffert to win the U.S. Olympic Trials. The trio went on to the Olympic Games in Melbourne where they won the gold. Ayrault, who was later discharged from the Navy, continued to row for the Lake Washington Rowing Club, which he helped found. Ayrault competed in the 1960 Olympic Games, winning a gold as a member of the U.S. four without coxswain team.
