Three baseball executives – Bill Cutler, president of the Pacific Coast League; Jimmy Zarelli, president of the Tacoma Twins; and Bowie Kuhn, the Major League Baseball commissioner – had their photo taken at a meeting. Zarelli, who was born in Tacoma in 1909 and graduated from Stadium High School in 1927, was a driving force in keeping Triple-A baseball in Tacoma in 1971. When the Chicago Cubs moved their Triple-A team from Tacoma in 1971, Zarelli was part of a group who invested money and time to keep a Triple-A team in Tacoma. And Triple-A baseball continues to be in Tacoma today with the Tacoma Rainiers. Zarelli also played a key role in bringing a domed stadium – the Tacoma Dome – to Tacoma. In 1995, Tacoma's Triple-A team became affiliated with the Seattle Mariners and the team's mascot was changed to the Tacoma Rainiers. Tacoma adopted the Rainiers name as a tribute to the Seattle Rainiers, a minor league team that played in Seattle from 1938 to 1964 and 1972 to 1976. Kuhn was the fifth MBL commissioner and served from 1969 to 1984.Lexicon
