Description

Dick Greco pitching during a sandlot baseball game in an undated photograph. Greco, a 1943 Stadium High School graduate, played for the Tacoma Tigers of the Western International League from 1946-50, hitting 126 home runs. During the 1950 season in Tacoma, he led the WIL in hits (203), total bases (363), home runs (36) and RBI (154) in 148 games. Greco was a league home run champion three other times (South Atlantic League in 1951 and 1952 and Pioneer League in 1957) and set the WIL record for double plays turned by an outfielder with 10 in 1950. . Greco hit 333 home runs while playing in the minor leagues from 1946-57 and was MVP of the South Atlantic League in 1952 yet never got called up to the majors. As player/manager for the Modesto Reds in the California League in 1956, Greco hit 44 home runs, drove in 162 and finished with a batting average of .327. Greco even got married at the ballpark in 1950, saying "I do" to Evelyn Moore of Victoria in a home plate ceremony before a game between Tacoma and Victoria.
