Description

An 8.5x11 inch gold framed plaque with purple and gold matting honors the 1975 University of Washington NCAA championship mile relay team, which consisted of Jerry Belur, Pablo Juan Franco Jr., William L. Hicks Jr. and Keith Tinner. The quartet was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame in 1988. The Huskies finished in 3 minutes, 5.1 seconds in Provo, Utah, a time that stood as a UW record until 2005. Tinner, who ran the opening leg on the UW relay team, ran track for Lincoln High School, winning five state titles in the 220 and 440. Tinner was the first high schooler in state history to break 47 seconds in the quarter-mile. He was inducted into the Tacoma Athletic Commission Hall of Fame in 2007.
