Description

Steve Whitaker wore this New York Yankees pinstriped baseball jersey when he played for the Yankees for three years in the late 1960s. Whitaker, a football and baseball star at Lincoln High School and graduated from there in 1962, played five years in the major leagues. Whitaker signed with the Yankees out of high school and after a three-year stint in the minor leagues he played for the Yankees in 1966. He belted a grand slam and hit an in-the-park home run in just 16 games with the Yankees that season. The following season in 1967, he played in 122 games with the Yankees and batted .243 and belted 11 homers. In the Yankees' batting lineup, he batted before Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. In 1969, Whitaker played in 69 games with the Seattle Pilots.
