Description

A green and white No. 25 University of Puget Sound jersey. The University of Puget Sound is a private liberal arts college in Tacoma and its football team competes in the Northwest Conference, NCAA Division III. The college began playing football in 1901 and went undefeated with an 8-0-1 record in 1956. UPS had many stellar football players that went on to enter not only the university’s Hall of Fame but others as well. Among those players was Dick Colombini. Colombini set a school record with four touchdowns and 25 points in a 58-0 win over Eastern Washington. Frank Gillihan played for the University of Puget Sound and played against such colleges as Gonzaga, Battleship at Bremerton, Ellensburg Normal, Pacific University and the University of Washington at Tacoma. It was the game against the Huskies that is believed to be the first night-time football game played in the Northwest.
