Description

Hall of Fame broadcaster Jerry Geehan wore these field glasses during his career covering sports in Tacoma. The glasses were given to Geehan by General Mills for his involvement in the “Wheaties” sports broadcasts. Geehan was a broadcaster in Tacoma who covered the Tacoma Tigers baseball team in the 1930s. Geehan was a Lincoln High product who began his career at KVI Radio in 1932 after attending the College of Puget Sound (now the University of Puget Sound). Geehan became the first broadcaster for Tacoma in 1937 and then joined KMO Radio as its first play-by-play announcer for Western International League and PLC and CPS games. He went on to become the station’s sales manager and eventual general manager. He was owner and general manger of KTAC Radio from 1952-69 and was chairman of the Washington State Association of Broadcasters. Geehan was inducted into the Pierce-County Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.
