Description

With Paradise Inn seen in the background, a big group of skiers wait in line to take a ski lift in this black-and-white photo taken in 1938. The parking lot was full of cars on this day. Paradise Lodge was built in 1916 on the slopes of Mount Rainier at 5,400 feet and opened in 1917. In 1936, a ski rope tow was installed at Paradise, making it a popular destination for skiers. A T-Bar ski lift was approved to be built in 1933 during the depression, but it was never built.
