The Tacoma native (born Jan. 5, 1932) posted a 33-4-1 record with 25 knockouts after posting a 103-2 record as an amateur.
McMurtry’s most notable fight was against Canada’s George Chuvalo on Oct. 17, 1958 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
The bout, broadcast on the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports, was won by McMurtry by unanimous decision.
