Back in 1937, a rope tow for skiers was installed at Alta Vista at Paradise and it became a popular place for skiing. With Paradise averaging 641 inches of snow per year, it became a popular destination for skiers. Paradise Inn was built in 1916 and opened in 1917 and it became a popular hotel for skiers during the snowy winters. It became a famous place to ski. In 1935, the U.S. Olympic downhill ski team held their tryouts at Paradise. Two years later, a ski rope tow was built there. The ski lifts were removed in the 1970s. The road to Paradise from Longmire is open year around, but all drivers from Nov. 1 to May 1 are required to carry chains. Paradise set the world record for measured snowfall in a single year when 1,122 inches fell in the 1971-72 winter.Made/Created
