Description

Joe Hedges (right) and Bob Morrison trudge along as they cross-country ski up a snowy hill by “herringbone” on the ridge next to a ski lift at Cayuse Pass in the 1930s. Cayuse Pass connects to Chinook Pass and White Pass on the east side of Mount Rainier National Park. The Cayuse Pass summit is 4,675 feet and is about five miles west of the Chinook Pass summit. It is at the junction of State Routes 123 and 410 and during the winter it is closed to traffic because of snow. Hedges and Morrison enjoyed skiing at Paradise and on the slopes that surround that area.
