Standing on her skies, Jane Creswell Howe looks down the snowy slopes at Interglacier on Mount Rainier in this black-and-white photo taken in the 1940s. Howe was an avid skier and a frequent skier at Mount Tahoma. The photo was donated by Chuck Howe. The Interglacier is a small glacier on the northeast face of Mount Rainier. The glacier is on a wedge called the Steamboat Prow and is between the Emmons Glacier on the south and the Winthrop Glacier to the north. The glacier lies just below Steamboat Prow at about 9,400 feet. Paradise averages 641 inches of snow a year, making it a popular place for crosscountry skiers, snow boarders and snowshoers.Made/Created
