Description

Deep Creed Lodge pictured in 1948 at Mount Rainier National Park. Skiers were frequent guests at this lodge during the winter. In 1792, Captain George Vancouver first saw the snow-capped mountain while sailing down the Puget Sound and he decided to name the mountain after his friend, rear admiral Peter Rainier. Mount Rainier became the fifth national park in the United States in 1899. This photo was donated by Chuck Howe, a longtime skier at Paradise.
