Cabins like this near Mount Rainier National Park were a popular destination for skiers back when this photo was taken in 1948. This is a photo of Deep Creek Lodge, which was along Deep Creek trail, which is an 11-mile trail and is still a popular hike today. The trail has an elevation gain of 3,750 feet and ends at 5,210 feet. Paradise, which is also at 5,000 feet and is nearby, averages 641 inches of snow a year, making it a popular place for skiers, sledders and snowshoers over the years. Paradise set the world record for measured snowfall in a single year when 1,122 inches fell in the 1971-72 winter. Even during the summer, hikers can expect to encounter snow along the trail or off to the sides of the trail.Lexicon
