Jerry Cudney, who wore this varsity letterman sweater, was a versatile athlete who was also a member of the Cheney Studs Pee-Wee hockey team that won a championship in 1950-51. The Studs were part of a lager organization that included pee wee football, hockey and basketball at various divisions. Founder Ben Cheney was an avid baseball fan but grew up in a low-income family and couldn’t afford his own gear. Cheney worked to grow his own successful business in Tacoma, the Cheney Lumber Company, and began to sponsor youth sports programs for boys and girls until his death in 1971.
