Description

Wayne Hoff received their trophy in 1962 as an original member of the Tacoma Studs Courteers basketball team, a youth basketball team. Ben Cheney, a local businessman, backed local sports and sponsored the Cheney Stud Courteers, who ranged in age from 12 to 15. For a number of years, they entertained crowds at high school and college basketball games with a fun Harlem globetrotter-style halftime show. They once played at a halftime of a Seattle Sonics game. Tim McDonough played for the Cheney Studs Courteers in 1967 as a young boy and went on to star for Lincoln High School. He later got a scholarship to play football at the University of Puget Sound.
