Description

A skier kneels underneath a long row of skiers holding their skies up in some kind of ceremony held on the snowy slopes at Paradise back in 1929. When Paradise Inn opened on July 1, 1917, Paradise was already a popular place to go skiing. In 1936, a rope tow for skiers was installed at Paradise. Today Paradise Inn is a National Historic Landmark and is one of the great lodges on the west coast. There are miles of trails near Paradise that are used for cross-country skiing during the winter and for hikers during the summer. During the summer, the hillsides at Paradise turn from snow cover to being filled with meadows lush with wildflowers and it is very picturesque.
