Description

On a wintry day, four cross-country skiers ski through Devil's Dip on a trail from Paradise on Mount Rainier. Since the 1920s, skiing in the Paradise area has been a popular activity. Paradise Inn opened in 1917, giving skiers overnight stay and inviting more skiers to come. In 1938, a rope tow for skiers was built on the slopes at Paradise and that encouraged even more skiers to come and ski. Paradise is at 5,000 feet on the slopes of Mount Rainier, which is 14,440 feet. The road from the Nisqually entrance to Paradise is open year around, weather permitting. Paradise averages 121 days of snow and averages 670 inches of snow a year.
