Description

A girl scoops up confetti near a cameraman during the downtown parade for the Tacoma Stars following the 1986-87 season. The Stars reached the championship game for the Major Indoor Soccer League, losing in the final to the Dallas Sidekicks 4-3 in overtime during Game 7. The Stars won the Western Division title with a 35-17 record, seven games ahead of the second place Kansas City Comets. Tacoma beat the Wichita Wings, 3 games to 2, in the division semifinals and eliminated the San Diego Sockers, 4 games to 3, in the Western Division finals to advance to the championship series. The Stars won three of the first five matches against the Sidekicks but lost the final two matches, both in overtime on goals by Mark Karpun. Gary Heale was Tacoma's leading scorer during the postseason with 17 goals and 7 assists in 19 matches.
