Description

A front window display at Perkins Bicycle Shop shows trophies and the bicycle ridden by Dick Perkins. Richard ‘Dick’ Perkins received his first racing bike from his father in 1949 and went on to claim the junior Washington Amateur Bicycle League Championship in June of that year. Perkins, who attended Stadium High in Tacoma, won the race the next three years, each time winning a spot to nationals. Perkins raced in San Diego, New Jersey and twice in Columbus and was interviewed by ABC’s Wide World of Sports. He retired from bicycle racing in 1952.
