Description

Frank Gillihan served as the Tacoma Athletic Commission’s sixth president in 1949, replacing Howard Smith. Gillihan played football, basketball and baseball at the University of Puget Sound, 1926-30, earning all-conference honors four times in football and twice in basketball. He was later voted into the UPS and Tacoma-Pierce County halls of fame. During his term as TAC president, the organization hosted a water carnival featuring a boat race from Point Defiance to Browns Point and a water ski race from Tacoma to Seattle.
