THE NEWS TRIBUNE SPORTS STAFF-1989 Taken in 1988 and ran in house ads for TNT winning top-10 award for sports sections in national Associated Press sportswriters contest, one of about 15 straight years that happened. But it could've been 1987, which is year Pete Wevurski came in as sports editor and finished a major overhaul of dept. Might check with Arn Lytle, too. This is the crew that ESPN referred to as "the best sports staff nobody's ever heard of" - scooped the crap out of both Seattle papers again and again. Michael Kahn (June 5, 1954 - December 17, 2008) was a sports journalist, best known for his contributions, via what is now CBS Sportsline, to the beginnings of internet sports journalism. Mike Kahn most notably started his journalistic career in Jefferson City, covering high school sports, but swiftly moved up the ranks. He soon landed a job at the Tacoma News Tribune, where he joined John Clayton and Bart Wright to create a nationally renowned sports page. In the early '90s he covered the Seattle Sonics for the TNT and quickly earned a national reputation for knowing more about the National Basketball Association than anyone. In the late '90s, Kahn moved to Florida to become one of the founders of Sportsline.com, one of the first independent sports webpages. Sportsline was eventually bought out by Viacom in 2004, which led to layoffs of many workers, including Mike. Kahn then joined the Seattle Seahawks as their staff writer, until his death in 2008 from complications with lung cancer
