Description

Curtis High School graduate Mike Levenseller was a wide receiver for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League in 1982. The former Washington State University star helped the Eskimos win the Grey Cup, the CFL's championship trophy, with a 32-16 victory over the Toronto Argonauts on Nov. 28, 1982. Levenseller's quarterback that season was Warren Moon, the former University of Washington star who played in the CFL for six seasons before his 17-year career in the NFL. Wondering about the unusual jersey number for a wide receiver? The CFL allows receivers to wear numbers in the 70s (as well as Nos. 1-19). Levenseller earned all-Pacific 8 Conference honors and was honorable mention All-American, then was a sixth-round pick in 1978 by the Oakland Raiders. He played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1978), Buffalo Bills (1978) and Cincinnati Bengals (1979-80) before heading north to play in the CFL for the Eskimos (1982) and Calgary Stampeders (1983-84). After his playing career, Levenseller served as a coach for the BC Lions (1986) and Argonauts (1990-91) of the CFL, WSU (1992-2011) and the Idaho Vandals (2012).
