Description

A dark brown wooden lawn-bowling ball, with the initials ‘R.T’ etched in a patter on it, was part of a donation of balls by Van Armstrong. The popular sport of lawn bowling began during the Roman era and is still very popular in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand. In the United States the sport is still played in Arizona, California, Florida, New York and New England. The Tacoma Lawn Bowling Club was started by Scottish immigrant Alexander ’Sandy’ Drummond in 1929 but ended in 2014. The club was reestablished in 2017 and continues to preserve the club’s 88-year history.
