The Tacoma Tides played one season (1976) in the American Soccer League, finishing second in the West Division, beating the Utah Golden Spikes in the playoff quarterfinals 2 games to 1 before losing to the Los Angeles Skyhawks 2 games to 1 in the semifinals. The Tides played their home matches at Cheney Stadium. The team was owned by Booth Gardner, a former Clover Park Junior High student who later served as the 19th governor of Washington from 1985-93.
