Gordy Pfeifer plays against Jimmy Jacobs in a handball match in 1970 national championships at the L.A. Athletic Club in Los Angeles, California. Pfeifer was an accomplished handball player in the Pacific Northwest. The University of Puget Sound Hall of Fame athlete — he played basketball, baseball and golf — won 15 world, national or professional handball titles including consecutive United States Handball Singles Championships in 1971-72. Pfeifer was named the Pierce County Athlete of the Year in 1971 and was a Seattle Post-Intelligencer Man of the Year nominee in 1972. Pfeifer also authored A Lifetime Reference Guidebook to Handball and Racquetball in 1975. He was inducted into the Washington State Sports Hall of Fame in 1994.
