"Irish" Pat McMurtry won the 160-pound title at the inaugural Tacoma Golden Gloves in 1949.
McMurtry, who fought at Tacoma's Starlight Athletic Club, would go on to win two more Golden Gloves titles before turning pro, posting a 33-4-1 record with 25 knockouts.
McMurtry twice fought in New York's Madison Square Garden, beating George Chuvalo on Oct. 17, 1958 and Nino Valdes on Dec. 19, 1958.Lexicon
