With their table in a shape of a “T,” members of the Tacoma Athletic Commission met together and had a dinner party in this black-and-white photo. Since its inception in 1945, the Tacoma Athletic Commission has been a sports-minded civic organization that raises and donates money to sporting programs, stages events and honors athletes with awards. TAC is dedicated to youth and sports. Each year the TAC awards the Athlete of the Year award in 23 sports at 34 schools. More than 700 students-athletes, families and friends gather quarterly to celebrate the academic and athletic achievements of those who receive these awards. People in this black-and-white photo sitting around the front table from left to right are: Ab Bergeson, Dave Tuell, Doug Dyckman, Harry Andrews, Will Maylon, Bill Hardie, Al Whitman, Jim Peterson, Barofsky. Dickman was a longtime supporter of TAC and in 1944 he was the TAC president. Tuell was an avid bowler and rolled his first perfect 300 game at just 16. He went on to bowl at the University of Washington, helping the Huskies win a NCAA championship in 1955 and 1956. Tuell, who died in 2003, founded the Tacoma All-Star Travel League in 1963.
