Tacoma businessman Joe Macaluso was a dedicated supporter of local sports and served as president of the Tacoma Athletic Commission. Macaluso, a graduate from Puyallup High School, was a longtime supporter of the Tacoma Golden Gloves and worked as a referee in boxing. He was honored for his contributions to boxing at the 39th annual Tacoma Golden Gloves in 1987. In 1969, NFL's hall of fame quarterback Joe Namath was a guest speaker at a TAC event and Macaluso helped coordinate the event. Macaluso, who was born in Tacoma in 1934 and died in 2018, was a longtime businessman in the retail fashion business. His popular stores were Stanley's Shoes, The Lemon Tree and The New Look. He was a longtime member and past president of the Tacoma Athletic Commission.
